A Melbourne nurse claims her positive drug test was the result of sex with cocaine user!
The nurse from Victoria, Australia, named Tara Seymour, had previously admitted to recreational drug use while abroad and at a party in April last year, but denied taking any illegal substances before her November 2016 drug test.
Tara reportedly told the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) after failing her drug screening that on the night prior to her urine test she had sex with a "very sweaty" man.
She said the sweaty man later told her he had used cocaine the day of their physical encounter. The nurse, who has worked at Melbourne's John Faulkner Private Hospital since 2011, claimed the positive test result may have been caused by contaminated bodily fluids from the sweaty man.
Chemical pathologist Julia Chang, appeared on the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and said while it was possible the test results may have been cause by cross-contamination, it was "highly improbable" - no surprises there!
While the Board found Seymour's story "unlikely", by arguing her case, the Melbourne nurse, who is called "passionate" by her colleagues, managed to reduce the frequency of her drug tests.
VCAT deputy president Heather Lambrick says that the Board can't understand how if Seymour has indeed given up drugs, or is, at the most, a recreational user, how she couldn't abstain from using drugs even during a period when she knew she was being tested.
Therefore, was the sweaty man the cause of her failed drug test after all? Only time will tell.
The Melbourne nurse's case will be reviewed in three months.
