Every fortnight, up to one Brisbane woman is undergoing a "fringe" gynecological procedure called G-spot amplification, which promises to enhance sexual gratification.
The procedure involves injecting dermal fillers into the G-spot after anesthetic, and it is touted as "minimally invasive" and able to "improve sensitivity where you need it most".
Owners of the Brisbane Cosmetic Medical Clinic, BeautyFULL, are believed to be among the first of its kind to undertake this procedure in the country. They claim that it is a surprisingly popular treatment, with one woman every two weeks coming in for the $900 "climax boost".
Cosmetic nurse, Kate Sowden, has said women of all ages were coming in to BeautyFULL to have the procedure, but that it was more common in women over the age of 35.
Sowden said the procedure, which involves the injection of hyaluronic acid by a doctor, took about 10 minutes and was "very comfortable for clients", with results lasting at least four months.
"It's an all-natural product so there's a very low risk of having any sort of adverse reaction or anything like that," she said.
But Australian Medical Association Queensland spokesman and gynecologist Bill Boyd urged caution, saying no surgical procedure was without risk.
