Adulttoymegastore asked more than a hundred of their Australian customers why they buy sex toys is recently, which revealed that Australians like to keep things "spicy" in the bedroom with the help of adult toys!
Adulttoymegastore invited their customers to take part in a voluntary post-purchase survey between 30 August and 30 September 2017, which asked respondents to provide their main reason for purchasing sex toys.
The survey results revealed that the number one reason why Australians purchase sex toys is to "spice things up in the bedroom with their partner," with 35.29% of respondents selecting this option.
Masturbation came in at second place, with 27.45% of respondents stating that they mainly purchase adult toys to assist their solo-play sessions.
According to the survey results, the third most popular reason for purchasing sex toys in Australia is to make good sex, great, at 14.71%.
Curiosity and wanting to try new things was the main reason for purchasing adult toys for 11.76% of survey takers, who stated that they purchase adult products to fuel their sexual adventurism and to satisfy their curiosity.
Buying novelty gifts and products for hen's and stag parties or other special events was the main reason for 8.82% of respondents, while just 1.96% of the people surveyed said they buy sex toys to help with their sexual performance or sexual health.
Majority of survey respondents were first-time adult toy buyers, with 38.83% of people saying it was the first time they have ever purchased an adult toy.
"Once or twice a year" was the second most popular option at 37.86%, followed by "once every few months" at 28.17%.
Only a few of the people surveyed said they buy sex toys almost every pay day (2.91%), which shows that buying adult toys is something that Australians only tend to do a few times a year.
The same survey was run in New Zealand, which showed almost identical results.
Adulttoymegastore content executive, Janelle Cheesman, says the survey results paint an interesting picture of why, and how, Australians are using sex toys.
"I think a lot of people might find these survey results quite surprising because sex toys are largely associated with masturbation, but many of our customers are actually couples who are looking to mix things up in the bedroom and enhance their sex lives," Janelle explains.
"Sex is such an important part of a relationship, and a lot of couples are realising the benefits sex toys can have, especially if things are beginning to get a little stale. I'd say the survey findings certainly reflect this."
