Don't use hot water - the water needs to be cool warm or else it could burn you.
Check the water pressure - you don't want to blast your insides! You want a gentle flow, emphasis on gentle.
Use lube - There are two rings of muscles in your sphincter. The external ring will relax with you. But the internal ring will only relax if it senses pressure. Put lubricant on your little finger and gently open your anus before lube.
