The type of lubricant you purchase will depend on a few different factors, such as; the type of play, the longevity of the play, the material type of the sex toys you are using, the sensations you are wanting to achieve, and so much more!

When choosing a lubricant, the first step is to understand what you are wanting to use it for primarily. For example; anal play lubricants need to be long-lasting and not go tacky or sticky after a short period of time. Whereas vaginal intercourse may not require the same level of longevity as anal play.

Once you understand the type of play, you then need to look at whether the type of lubricant will be compatible with the material of any sex toys or condoms you are wanting to use. For example; silicone lubricants are typically not compatible with silicone toys as the two different silicones react against each other. Whereas a water-based lubricant is suitable for all types of condoms and sex toy materials. If you are unsure what material your sex toy or condoms are, then water-based is likely the safest option to choose.

Next it is a good idea to understand whether there are any extra sensations you are wanting to achieve. Cooling lubricants are great for a change in sensation, as are warming lubricants, which are perfect for winter. Tingling lubricants can add a touch of extra stimulation and really amp things up!
